How to Use a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine

CNC means computer numerical control and this article gives a brief overview on the operation of a CNC machine connected to a PC running EMCO. Other operating systems and software are also available but that is beyond the scope of this article. CNC machines are normally found in machine shops, but with recent development of inexpensive controllers are now showing up more commonly in home shops. CNC machines are part of the machining process when high quantity is needed.

1.Start the software, open CNC program by going to Programs//EMCO//WinNC-Launch

2Reference the machine once you are up, the 7017 error code is telling you that the machine needs to be referenced.
3.Select your tool, turn your mode dial to MDI (Manual DATA input), Press the POG key on the vertical keypad.
4.Facing your piece, T4 (for tool #4) Enter, M6 (stands for tool index) Enter, Enter, after the second enter, this line should appear at the top of your screen under the "Program" title.
5.Press Cycle Start.
6.Turn your mode dial to JOG.
